Week 10: Basic Clinical Procedures II

Day 1: Vital Signs Review & Practice 

  • Review normal ranges for temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation - Demonstrate correct techniques for each measurement 

  • Students practice on each other in pairs 

  • Discuss factors affecting vital signs 

Day 2: Height, Weight & BMI Measurement 

  • Demonstration of height measurement using a stadiometer 

  • Measuring weight accurately with different scales 

  • Calculating BMI and interpreting results 

  • Recording measurements in patient charts 

Day 3: Patient Positioning & Draping 

  • Overview of patient positions: supine, Fowler's, lithotomy, prone, Sims' 

  • Demonstration of proper draping techniques privacy and infection control 

  • Hands-on practice in mock exam settings 

Day 4: Vision & Hearing Screening 

  • Introduction to Snellen chart and near-vision testing 

  • Conducting color vision screening 

  • Hearing screening using audiometer or tuning fork 

  • Recording and interpreting screening results 

Day 5: Respiratory Assessment & Pulse Oximetry 

  • Techniques for counting respiratory rate 

  • Using a pulse oximeter and interpreting SpO2 readings 

Recognizing abnormal readings and when to alert a provider
