Week 4 Anatomy and Physiology of Cardiovascular System.

Objective:

To equip students with knowledge of the structure, function, and clinical significance of the cardiovascular system, enabling them to understand blood circulation, heart anatomy, and common cardiovascular conditions relevant to patient care.

Day 1 - Introduction to the Cardiovascular System

  • Topics Covered:

    • Overview & functions of the cardiovascular system

    • Components: heart, blood vessels, blood

    • Role in transporting oxygen, nutrients, and waste

    • Relation to other body systems

  • Activities:

    • Lecture with visual aids

    • Group brainstorming: How the cardiovascular system supports life

    • Short video demonstration on blood circulation\

Day 2 - Anatomy of the Heart

  • Topics Covered:

    • Location, size, and position of the heart

    • Heart chambers: atria & ventricles

    • Heart valves: tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, aortic

    • Layers of the heart: endocardium, myocardium, epicardium

  • Activities:

    • Heart model labeling exercise
