Day 1 - Introduction to Medical Terminology 

  • Lecture Content: 

- Purpose of medical terminology in healthcare 

- How terms are built: 

 * Root word - basic meaning (e.g., "cardio" = heart) 

 * Prefix - placed before the root (e.g., "tachy-" = fast) 

 * Suffix - placed after the root (e.g., "-itis" = inflammation) 

- Importance of pronunciation and spelling accuracy 

- Examples: "Cardiology" = cardio (heart) + logy (study of) 

  • Teaching Activity: 

- PowerPoint slides with breakdown of terms 

- Identify root, prefix, suffix in given words 

- Flashcard drill 

  • Homework: 

- List 20 medical terms with root, prefix, and suffix 

Day 2 - Medical Terminology Practice 

  • Lecture Content: 

- Common prefixes (hyper-, hypo-, brady-, tachy-, peri-, sub-, intra-, inter-) - Common suffixes (-ectomy, -itis, -logy, -pathy, -algia, -megaly) 

- Roots related to body systems (cardio, neuro, gastro, hepato, nephro, dermato, osteo) - Combining vowels (e.g., "o" in cardiology) 

  • Teaching Activity: 

- Group worksheet matching meanings to terms 

- Flashcard game 

- Pronunciation practice 

  • Homework: 

- Create a "mini glossary" of 15 new terms with definitions 

Day 3 - Medical Communication Skills 

  • Lecture Content: 

- Importance of clear, professional communication

Medical Assistant Course - Week 2 

- Types: verbal, non-verbal, written 

- Building rapport with patients 

- Using plain language with patients 

- Cultural sensitivity and diversity 

  • Teaching Activity: 

- Teacher demonstrates a short patient interview 

- Role-play in pairs 

- Feedback on tone, posture, and word choice 

  • Homework: 

- Write a one-page patient interview script using at least 10 medical terms 

Day 4 - Role-Play & Quiz 

  • Activities: 

- Role-play patient interviews in groups 

- Correct use of medical terms and layman's explanations - Peer feedback session 

- Quiz on medical abbreviations (BP, HR, NPO, PRN, BID, QD, STAT) 

  • Assessment: - Quiz graded in class ,- Observation of role-play participation
